EAC Travel Between Tanzania and Kenya

As fellow East African Community member states, travel between Tanzania and Kenya is relatively straightforward:

  • Tanzanian citizens: Can enter Kenya with a valid Tanzanian passport or national ID card. No visa required for stays up to 6 months under EAC free movement protocols.
  • Kenyan citizens: Can enter Tanzania with a valid Kenyan passport or national ID. No visa required.
  • EAC e-Passport: Both countries issue EAC-format e-passports which facilitate smoother border crossing.
  • One Stop Border Posts: Namanga, Lunga Lunga, Isebania, and Taveta/Holili operate as one-stop border posts for faster crossing.
While no visa is needed, you may need to show proof of sufficient funds and a return ticket/onward travel plan when entering Kenya.
