Emergency Travel Documents

If your Tanzanian passport is lost, stolen, or damaged while abroad, Tanzania embassies can issue emergency travel documents to get you home safely.

In an Emergency

Contact your nearest Tanzania embassy immediately. Most embassies have an emergency contact number for after-hours situations. For medical emergencies, always call local emergency services first (911, 999, 112).

Lost or Stolen Passport - What to Do

  1. Report to local police: File a police report immediately. Obtain a copy of the report - you will need this for the embassy.
  2. Contact the nearest Tanzania embassy: Call or visit as soon as possible. Explain your situation and the urgency of your travel needs.
  3. Apply for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD): The embassy can issue an ETD that allows you to return to Tanzania or travel to the nearest embassy that can issue a full replacement passport.
  4. Provide identification: Bring any form of identification you have - national ID, driving licence, copies of your passport, or any other document that can help verify your identity.
  5. Pay the fee: ETD fees are typically $30-50. The document is usually issued within 1-3 working days.
