Working in the UAE

The UAE is a major employer of Tanzanian workers. Important information for workers:

  • Labour contracts: Ensure your employment contract is attested by both the Tanzania Ministry of Labour and the UAE Ministry of Human Resources before travelling. This protects your rights.
  • Recruitment agencies: Only use licensed recruitment agencies registered with the Tanzania Ministry of Labour. Report unlicensed agents to the embassy.
  • Labour disputes: If you have issues with your employer (unpaid wages, contract violations, abuse), contact the embassy immediately. They can intervene with UAE authorities.
  • Document attestation: Many UAE institutions require documents to be attested by the Tanzania embassy. Bring original documents and copies.
  • Emirates ID: All residents must obtain an Emirates ID. Your employer should assist with this process.

UAE Citizens Visiting Tanzania

UAE nationals and residents need a visa to visit Tanzania. The e-Visa is the fastest option ($50 single entry). Visa on arrival was abolished on January 30, 2025 — all visitors must apply for an e-Visa online before travelling. Direct flights between Dubai and Dar es Salaam/Kilimanjaro operate daily with Emirates, flydubai, and other carriers.

Yes. Contact the embassy immediately. They can guide you through filing a complaint with MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation) and can intervene on your behalf. Keep all employment documents, contracts, and evidence of communication with your employer.

Documents need multi-step attestation: First notarize in Tanzania, then authenticate at MOFA Tanzania, then attest at the UAE Embassy in DSM, and finally attest at MOFA UAE. Alternatively, some documents can be attested at the Tanzania Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Bring originals and copies. Fee: $20-50 per document.
