Applications from embassies abroad are forwarded to the Immigration Department in Dar es Salaam for processing, which accounts for the longer timeline.

Since January 2025: All visitors must obtain an e-Visa before arrival. Apply at least 2 weeks before your travel date.

Tips for Faster Processing
- Complete all forms fully - incomplete applications are the most common cause of delays
- Provide all required documents at submission - missing documents will delay processing
- Apply early - start the process at least 3 months before you need the document
- Book an appointment where required - walk-ins may face longer wait times
- Follow up after the expected processing time has passed
- Use express service within Tanzania for urgent passport needs (TZS 150,000)
