How to Register a Marriage

Give Notice of Intention

Submit a written notice of intention to marry to the District Commissioner at least 21 days before the wedding. Both parties must provide their full names, ages, occupations, and residential addresses. A notice fee of TZS 5,000-10,000 applies.

Provide Required Documents

  • National ID (NIDA) or passport for both parties
  • Birth certificates for both parties
  • Death certificate of former spouse (if widowed) or divorce decree (if divorced)
  • Parental consent if under 21 (for civil marriage)
  • Passport photos (2 each)
  • Two witnesses with valid ID

Conduct the Marriage Ceremony

After the 21-day notice period, the marriage can proceed. A civil marriage is conducted at the District Commissioner's office or approved venue. Religious marriages are conducted at the place of worship.

Register with RITA
